AI and Robotics

Robots can not do most things that humans can do, but not all. The article, NASA Designs A Robot For Mars by Melissa Fassbender, states that the robot that NASA is building can open a door, however it can not, for now, understand what a door looks like and must require human assistance. For an example you can not put the robot in a room and tell it to "find door". This type of programming I am, believe it or not, familiar with. Years ago I used to make programs that would perform certain tasks in a video game based solely on images. In one of the video games I had to get my avatar to go through a door, unfortunately the door was colored the same as the environment, so I was unable to get it to work without assistance.

As for errors I would have to say a human makes more. Simple because of the fact that it's difficult for must people to multiple two, three digit numbers in their head with no mistakes. Computers, on the other hand, can do calculations with 100's of digits, within milliseconds, with no errors. Any error a computer or robot experiences is from the software developer and is to blame for the mistake.

Security and Privacy

Every new technology comes with it's own list of issues, and the internet, or web 2.0, is no exception. It may seem like it would be impossible to obtain sensitive, personal material through the Internet, such as malware, key-loggers, root-kits, etc, however, stuff like this happens all the time. Target learned of this the hard as explained in the Article, "Target works on security-heavy credit cards, after breach". The article explains how Target had a massive security breach that effect as much as 110 million customers.

It is also easy to obtain private information through social media, even by accident, as stated in the article "Facebook Privacy Is So Confusing Even the Zuckerberg Family Photo Isn't Private". Hopefully people will start to realize the danger of posting as much information as they can on the Web, and take some defensive precautions.

World Wide Web

I think the World Wide Web will continue to increase in complexity and popularity, due to companies competing against each other. Michael Donlan posted that Chicago will move 30,000 employees to Microsoft Office 365. The constant advancement of current technology will also contribute to this climb. The cloud is a network of remote servers that can store and processes information.

First Post

Hello, my name is Max Weber. This is blog is for a computer course for NEIU. It is also my first blog so I apologize if I make any mistakes.

Blogs, Twitter, and other social web sites can be a very useful tool for teachers and students. Teach Thought lists 60 ways Twitter could improve a classroom. Some of the ways that they said was that it could be used as a bulletin board for students to stay in the loop. Professor Jordan Shapiro has observed that Student talk to him more with Twitter, such as asking questions about the lecture, or even just having conversions. Rachael Barillari at the Daily Orange stated that the bond between professor and student is an extremely important factor in comprehensive learning and Web 2.0 sites can greatly improve this bond.
